Chishû Ryû -Tokyo-Ga

I’ve always thought that greater attention should be paid to the use of buckets in Ozu’s colour films. There has been a lot of talk and writing about the teapot, but not the bucket (and the broom).

Perhaps Wim Wenders thinks so too. In his Tokyo-Ga (1985) movie Chishû Ryû pays his respects to Ozu’s grave and he washes it using two wonderfully coloured plastic buckets.
